Student Awards

FireplacePresident's Prizes:

President’s Prizes of $250 each are awarded at the meeting for exceptional paper and poster presentations. Please indicate if you wish to compete for a president's prize when you submit THE CALL FOR PAPERS registration form and abstract.

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE PRESIDENTS PRIZE COMPETITION, STUDENTS MUST BE (1) enrolled in a degree program or have graduated from the program not more than 9 months prior to the meeting; (2) be a member of the ESO; (3) be registered at the meeting; and (4) must be the principal investigator and first author of the paper/poster.

Travel Awards:

Each year the Entomological Society of Ontario provides travel grants to assist students with their travel expenses to the annual meeting. The ESO awards both a graduate and an undergraduate travel grant worth $250 each!

Student members of the ESO who are presenting a poster or paper at the Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of Ontario being held on the 2-4th of October 2006 at the Frost Centre Institute, Dorset, ON are eligible to apply*.

Interested students applying for the Travel Award(s) should include: (1) a title and short abstract for their project; (2) a statement outlining why the funds are required and how the award will be used to support their participation in the ESO Annual Meeting; and, (3) a curriculum vitae or other document outlining past academic achievements, publications and awards / scholarships, and any activities that promote entomology in Ontario. Only active student members of the ESO who are enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program will be considered for travel awards. * Note that students may receive only one travel award while registered for a single degree.

Deadline for application is September 4th . Recipients will be notified at least two weeks before the annual meeting.

Student Group Travel Subsidies

In addition to the traditional Student Travel Awards, the ESO is delighted to offer four $150 travel subsidies for students travelling in groups to the annual meeting. The subsidies will be distributed on a first come/first serve basis. To qualify for a subsidy, groups of four or more members must submit an email to travel awards committee chair listing group members. Following the conference, a short report (1 paragraph) listing expenses incurred along with all receipts must be forwarded to the committee chair.
