CampfireCampfire Mixer - Friday Oct. 2, 6pm - 11pm

ESO meetings in year's past have had social and karaoke mixer's to get things started, but get ready for the most relaxing opening mixer yet! There is nothing quite like a campfire in cottage country to meet new friends and catch up with old acquaintances. Set on the beach overlooking beautiful Lake St. Nora on the grounds of the Frost Centre Institute, come and relax, enjoy the autumnal sun set, and get to know your fellow entomologists! Make sure to bring your favourite beverage (alcoholic or otherwise) and be ready to share your best entomological ghost story (or collecting/field incident)!

Chris Earley GuidingGuided Nature Hike with Chris Earley - Sunday Oct. 4, 2:00 pm

Once the meeting has come to a close, stick around for a guided nature walk through some of the pristine boreal forest accessible from the Frost Centre Institute's trail system. Interpretive biologist Chris Earley from the University of Guelph Arboretum will be leading a nature walk that you won't want to miss! Chris' experience discovering and interpreting the natural world includes research projects in Australia, New Zealand, and around Ontario, as well as working as a professional naturalist leader for Quest Nature Tours, where he leads annual safaris through Tanzania and Kenya looking for wildlife both large and small. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Haliburton Hills in full fall colours with an expert guide to lead you on your journey!

Sunrise FCIWaterfront Activities - All weekend long

What's a destination conference without recreational activities? Included in your registration fee is the ability to use canoes, kayaks and associated equipment to explore Lake St. Nora. What other scientific conference provides the opportunity to have an early morning paddle to unwind and soak in the sunrise before presenting your research to your peers? If staying dry is more to your liking, feel free to bring baseball gloves, a volleyball or soccer ball and utilize the athletic fields on site. Finally, if you wish to commune with nature, bring your hiking boots and explore the groomed trail system winding through the pristine boreal forest surrounding the Frost Centre Institute. ESO 2009 will be a meeting to remember, both indoors and outdoors!
